95 thunderbird idling really ruff wants to die out and at about 40mph its starts to sputter real bad?

Something like that could be just bec it needs a tune up real badly or has a bad air or gas filter or vac line or faulty sensor.Plus if a ignition coil was faulty it could cause such problems but even a bad engine ground or ground or wire can also cause the system to sputter.Fist thing I would do if gas filter or air filter hasn%26#039;t been changed in awhile is to check air filter and replace it if needed but be sure to change the gas filter.

From there check the condition of the plugs and wires etc and see if a basic tune up doesn%26#039;t in fact cure it right up.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way keep in mind a bad oxygen sensor can cause that too.Keep in mind a good service manual would also help you in diagnosing this problem .
